Evil Dead 2 Book of the Dead Ed.

Just got back from the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear and I saw that Anchor Bay is releasing a Book of the Dead ed. of Evil Dead 2. It looks quite a bit like the first ed. but this one screams when you press its eye. (just like me.)

Its supposed to come out end of Sept.

Evil Dead Comes to Stage in SF!!!!!

Evil Dead Live is currently in production and will be playing at 965 Mission St opening Feb 17th and playing through March 5th. This is a full length production combining both films, including demons, the laughing moose head, the disobedient hand, and lots and lots of blood. More info to come!

Evil Dead movies = guy-flicks?

in a recent conversation, an acquaintance made the statement that the Evil Dead movies were "guy-flicks" - that far more males than females liked them, and thats the audience it was aimed at. I don't see this at all.

the breakdown of the 'evil dead movies' & 'bruce campbell' tribes is a bit over 50-50, but not by too much. looks like both are around 60% male. (this might just reflect the general population of tribe though. the tech-lag has almost certainly evened up in the bay area, but in other parts of the world its possible there are still more males online than females)

Ok, I heard that an Evil Dead 4 was in the works, but not beforeanother film came up. Many of you have possably heard this already but there is to be a Freddie vs. Jason vs. Ash film. Now thereare alot of ways that this film could tottaly butcher(not in a good way!) what we love, about all these charictors. But if it is done right, it will be legendary. I for one enjoyed Freddie vs. Jason. Sure there were alot of loose ends hanging around, but what horror flick dousn't have them! Just wanted to if anybody has heard about this and what there thoughts were on this.

when i was guesting on Television shows,
i requested to be on Bruce Campbell's show
'the adventures of brisco county, jr.' and
when we had an all-night shoot, i came to the set
with my evil dead t-shirt on underneath our
wardrobe and on break i opened up my shirt and
showed Bruse my shirt with HIM on it and he
fuckin' totally was into it....and shouted,
"We are going to be great buddies all night man!!!"
we did talk all night and he signed EVERYTHING for me.
i will post up here and pics of us hangin' together also.

Xena tribe

For you Raimi fans, I just started a Xena tribe. I simply cannot believe that one didn't exist before now.

I just saw the series finale last night for the first time - I was pleased to see that they used the "monster cam" shot from Evil Dead 2, where you see the crashing progress of the monster through the forest from the creature's perspective. They even used the same growling noise!

Xena kicks ass.

Reused Music

New AoD Comic sequel

I just picked this up over the weekend. POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

I gave it a read through and mostly liked it. A lot of dialogue was lifted from the films and the story moved along pretty quickly but pretty soon the flaw of the premise became way too obvious (and I know I shouldn't think about these things too hard, but this just doesn't fly).

After Ash goes to sleep at the end of AoD, he leaves the cave and goes back to his job at S-Mart, right? This comic says that he woke up a couple days too soon and is at S-Mart (at the end of AoD) before the events of Evil Dead 2 even take place, and needs to help his other self against the demons. SO there are two Ashes running around. Both at S-Mart. One with a metal hand.

My problem is that SOMEHOW Ash got from the cave in ENGLAND back to the S-Mart in MICHIGAN and never saw he was earlier than he expected. Ash's incompetence only goes so far, and someone at S-Mart would have to notice two Ash's reporting for the same shift.

Fine, I'm nit-picking, but the films had their own internal logic that they followed. This story is faulty from the very beginning. It's feeling like the second Back to the Future film which is far from a classic. Believe me I'd like another great Ash story, but so far this isn't it.

March 18: JU-ON creators talk Sam Raimi-produced remake

In the wake of the blockbuster success of THE RING, a slew of Asian horror films are scheduled for U.S. remaking. One of those on the fastest track is THE GRUDGE, based on the JU-ON series of movies that began as a pair of shot-on-video titles and progressed into two full-fledged features, the second of which recently wrapped in Japan. The remake rights for the Taka Ichise productions were picked up by Senator International’s Ghost House Pictures and Sam Raimi, a man who needs little introduction to Fango readers.

How this came about is explained to Fango’s Norman England by Ichise, who, as the producer of the Japanese RING series, is on the forefront of his county’s horror movement. “Roy Lee, who introduced RINGU to DreamWorks, invited Sam to a screening of JU-ON,” Ichise recalls. “Sam liked the film so much that he said he would personally like to produce a remake. It’s a very exciting proposition, since I’ve been very influenced by his films. And as co-producer, I plan to create with him an unprecedented horror film, the likes of which has never been seen in America.”

Ichise’s “unprecedented” film is already on the right track. Normally, when a foreign film is remade in the U.S., the original team is dumped in favor of Hollywood talent, but THE GRUDGE will retain writer/director/creator Takashi Shimizu. “The idea to keep Takashi on as director was Sam’s,” Ichise reveals. “He suggested it before I even had the chance!”

The rarity of this decision is not lost on director Shimizu. “I am entirely happy to have been put in charge of the U.S. version,” Shimizu tells Fango. “This month I’ll be traveling to the States to discuss the story with the American side of the production. A U.S. writer [Stephen Susco] is scripting, with the core of the stories being culled from the JU-ON videos and film. I need to discuss with them how these stories are arranged and how they connect with each other.”

JU-ON revolves around a supernatural curse born of a grudge held by someone who dies while in the grip of a powerful anger. This curse then passes on from victim to victim like a virus. Shimizu isn’t worried that the less in-your-face approach favored by Japanese horror directors will work for U.S. viewers. “Recently, Japanese horror has found a place in the States,” he says. “I believe that THE RING helped them accept our style. I realize that this will be an American film, but I plan to do things my way. If I was simply to copy the U.S. style of filmmaking, it would have no meaning. I was appointed by Mr. Raimi because he wants me to create something that an American can’t. My hope is to scare the U.S. audience in a way that they are unfamiliar with.

“I am very happy with how everything is coming together,” continues the 30-year-old Shimizu. “And to work in the U.S. will be exciting. I’ve never been to another country in my life. Now, my first trip is not a holiday but a job, one connected to my favorite thing: filmmaking. I don’t speak English, but the situation is too special to refuse. It will be my honor to introduce to Americans the scary world of THE GRUDGE.”

The following is clipped from a posting I just wrote in a thread on my tribe about my piping.

I recently emailed BCampbell using the "business" and not the "fan" email address on his URL to ask about using clips from EDI&II and AOD on a track on the album I'm current working to record (of myself piping). This morning I got the following reply back.

Of course, this doesn't mean my life is greater than it was at the crack of dawn, that I'm better than anyone else, or that I get neat stuff like dehydrated cats or something... but I thought y'all might get a kick out of seeing this. So now we know where Mr.Bruce is right now and that he's got more work on the way for us fans of his work. Anyway, w/o further adue...

PS: I got a response to an email I recently sent to Bruce Campbell in regards to getting legal permission to use some sound bites from two or three of the films he's been in on one of the tracks on my album -- Evil Dead I & II, and Army Of Darkness. Evil Dead outtakes

A few years ago a friend of mine who works at a film lab in Richmond, Virginia gave me a pretty unique gift. The lab where he works got a rush job sent in asking for quite a few rolls of 16mm film to be dumped to vhs, cleaned up, time coded etc...
Well, his boss was going to send it back saying they didnt have the time to do it but my friend (always the loyal worker) said he would take a look at it and maybe get it done. When he stated inspecting the reels he noticed the labels had stange titles like "pencil in ankle" and "basement witch". You probably see where I'm going with this huh? Yep, it was all the original film shot for Evil Dead. Needless to say, he got the job done and managed to knock off 2 extra sets of tapes (10 tapes per set I think). one for him, one for me and two for the folks putting out the dvd. I've had these for about 5 years now and havent done anything with them for fear of costing my buddy his job. I'm starting to think it's about time to get this stuff out to the fans though. Any input you guys might have as to how I should go about doing this (this stuff is seriously raw footage!) would be greatly appreciated. Of course I'd have to run it past the guy I got it from first but hell, 5 years is a pretty long time. Anyway, tell me what you think. Thanks

true story

I was sitting in an Indian restaurant reading Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil" when a waitress I know pretty well approached me and remarked with some energy at my book. Her English is not 100% perfect, but the black and red of the cover caught her eye and she recognized the word "Evil".

She explained to me with some animation that when she was growing up in Kathmandu the very first movie she and her family ever saw was Evil Dead! She was very excited and told me "All night long the children were screaming and screaming!"

I thought it would be cool to post stories about things that happened to you while watching or quoting the Evil Dead movies because I have a one.

A few years ago I had a Halloween get together to watch the trilogy and among the 20 or so guests that came were these two Russian girls. My friend loved all the exchange student girls from the local college and was always trying to hook up with them.

We make it well into Evil Dead (laughing our asses off all the way) before I decide to get up to get a drink from the kitchen. Once there, I find the two Russian girls under the kitchen table crying their eyes out and speaking frantically about how the movie was the scariest shit they had seen in their lives. Of course we laughed even harder at this (I know, I’m evil). Groovy - Now, who wants a little?

Wandering around shops today, I saw the Rob Zombie McFarlane figure for 1900 yen and the Bad Ash figure for 1500 yen.

If I were a betting man, despite the difference in cash value, I'd gamble that Bad Ash could take fewture-style Rob Zombie, claws or no.

ok tonight i watched the first evil dead again for the millionth time and realized that in the beginning of the movie, when scott first opens the door of the cabin it is all smokey inside. now this is before he turns the light on, but anyhoo i was just wondering where all that damn smoke came from if the cabin had been shut up for so long. hmmmmmmmm just a thought lol

Best Buy has the Evil Dead DVD Book of the Dead edition on sale for a measily 20 bucks! That sucker retailed for what 40? 50? when it first showed up! Take that Mr. Expensive DVD!

And now in the "blatant and lame give myself a cheap pop" thread department...I am exposing you all to my new tribe. It's for SpikeTV! The best fucking channel out there. While I love at least 75% of the programming out there, the real reason why I started that tribe is for "Most Extreme Elimination Challenge!" or, for those of you in Japan (Brian, why are you there anyways? Work? I'd love to live there one day), it's called "Takeshi's Castle". This is the best game show ever created. If you people haven't heard of it yet, find out about it! It's so ridiculously fun and painful, you can't help but to laugh in an evil and sadistic way...kind of like Evil Dead! So if you people are aware of this channel, or especially this show, join my tribe...or I'll swallow your soul!
