As a lot of you probably know, compositions for film scores are being reused w/in films these days. For example, I think the music from Star Gate is being used with this new Sky Captian film. I also noticed that some of the music from AOD is being used with this Vanity Fair flick.
Anyhoo, thought I'd mention it.

Re: Reused Music
Mon, September 13, 2004 - 12:29 PMI'm flashing back to the movie The Player.
I can just hear the scriptwrites pitching the idea to Universal: "It's a supernatural thriller set in Victorian times, not unlike Army of Darkness meets Vanity Fair."

Are they in the actual films, or just in the trailers? I'd been noticing that for a while now and have heard different reasons for it. Sometimes the music for a film isn't finished yet, so the studio will have to use something else to get a trailer ready. Other times a studio likes to use music from another, popular film to help get a trailer noticed by an audience.
But if the music is in the films itself, that'd be funny. It harkens back to films of the 40's and 50's (and even 60's) when almost entire scores would be re-used to save money, considering an audience probably wouldn't see a given film often enough to remember what the music was like (ahh, the days before home video). -

Tue, September 14, 2004 - 11:43 AMGood point(s) Frank -- yeah, it could just be in the trailers -- that's where I noticed the AOD music w/ Vanity Fair (on TV btw) and with Sky Captian (tho I don't remember if that was in a theatre, online preview, or on TV... likely one of the later two seeing as I, sadly, don't get out much for films in theatre). -

Re: Reused Music
Tue, September 14, 2004 - 12:33 PMThe preview for The Two Tours used music from the movie Requiem for a Dream, which is a similarly-perplexing mismatch.
